GOLDEN-ICE aims at exploiting the EGNOS and EDAS innovations in the field of winter services equipments (professional trucks and vehicles) with the objective to introduce advanced concepts in salt spreading control and road safety. GOLDEN-ICE improves the de-icing strategy currently employed by highways management and municipal departments. Heavy snow events and major sub zero temperature Europe-wide amplified the problems of increasing salt spreading optimization.

The main goal will be then to optimize the spreading functionalities on the basis of road morphology associated to precise EGNOS/EDAS positioning.

Reduction of salt cost, reduction of salt environmental impact and increased citizens (i.e. drivers) security are the main measurable results.

In particular GOLDEN-ICE will provide very important benefit for customers and citizens like:

- Salt-spreading solution compliant with the morphology of the road enabling salt reduction and important savings

- Optimization of the salt quantity (in real-time) in order to reduce the environmental impact and to reduce the overall de-icing material cost

- Optimization of road maintenance strategies logging the areas where more de-icing substances have been spread correlated to the kind of asphalt (i.e. corrosion prevention)
